Membership

Trash to Treasure is supported in part by modest user fees. If you value our center please take an annual membership so we can continue to serve our community! We rely on membership to pay the rent!!

• $60 Annually - unlimited visits, best deal in town!
• $150 Group Membership - unlimited visits!! (share with up to 5 people from your organization, business, school, etc)
• One Day Membership - $10 for up to 20lbs then $1/lb
• Take what you wish at each visit

 Things we DO accept:

• Baskets - all sizes, including plastic veggie & berry baskets
• CLEAN Caps & Lids - laundry detergent, food products, glass jar lids, etc...especially brightly colored ones (please clean them!)
• Costume Jewelry - including broken bits and pieces
• Foam - food trays (no meat please) egg cartons (paper or foam) We no longer accept styrofoam. Contact Edge Logistics for stryofoam drop-off information!
• Boxes - shoes, clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, etc.
• Paperboard - rolls from paper towels or toilet paper
• Paperboard - carry-out drink holders
• Department Store Shopping Bags
• Scrap Fabric - trim, ribbon, buttons or other notions
• Scrap Wire - including phone wire and jewelry wire
• Scrap Hardware & Wood Scrap
• String, Rope, Tape
• Wire Hangers - tiny plastic hooks and hangers from packaging ( e.g.socks)

Plastic Recycling Dumpster

• Trash to Treasure now accepts plastics #4-7 in our plastic recycling dumpser.
• Please recycle your #1-3 in your curbside recycling bin. Our dumpster fills up quick so we like to conserve the space for plastics that can not be recycled at the curb.
• We have partnered with a recycled plastic pallets manufacturer who uses our materials. The plastic pallets last longer than wood, use a recycled material, and weight less which means a smaller carbon footprint for shipping materials!
• Drop off your rigid plastics #4-7 during business hours or anytime in the dumpster in front of our warehouse.
• No plastic bags - please bring these back to the grocery store
• No styrofoam - please bring styrofoam to Edge Logistics
• No plastic film - only rigid plastics please.

Paper Recycling Dumpster

• We also have a dumpster in front of the warehouse for recycling cardboard and paper only.
• Please break down the boxes before putting them in the dumpster.

Things we DO NOT accept:

• Large Items - we are a small organization with limited space in our warehouse. If you have large items please call us first to see if we can accept them or if we can help you find another appropiate home for your donation. 
• Plastic Bags - please take these to a grocery store to be recycled unless you have colorful ones. We like to use the colorful bags for crochet. 
• Furniture - we do not accept anything that a thrift store will accept. We are trying to fill the recycling void. We sometimes accept shelving though for use to display items in our warehouse. Please call and ask before bringing.Click HERE for a list of local thrift stores that accept furniture.
• Electronics - Please take your electronic waste to thehazardous waste drop off. Click here for locations.

Palm Beach Fine Craft Show 2013

Last Friday Jackie and I headed up to Palm Beach to visit the Fine Craft Show. Although we both had a camera, neither of us took any photos but we did collect a few postcards from the artists we really wanted to remember. Above are a few of my favorites. We didn't come home with any purchases although it was tempting.

Top right card is from Stephen Rich Nelson. He had a great booth set up where the display furniture's drawers opened up to reveal divided sections each offering a small creation such as glasses, balls, etc. Beautiful work! www.stephenrichnelson.com

Then Beer's Pottery had great humor in his mugs .... one had a whistle built in for when you needed to call for a refill! His wine goblets had a bell in the base and another mug was built like a grenade complete with a metal tab to be pulled out before putting into the microwave so it didn't explode! All this was told with much joy and humor by Beer, the artist and creator of these fun pieces.

...J's note: He was highly personable - and part of his art was his connection to the observer, getting joy out of the humor and surprises shared.

My favorite wood artist was Terry Evans and one of his boxes I was so tempted to bring home. Check out his work at www.terryevanswoodart.com.

...J's note: his was one of those displays that as you turn the corner and it comes into view you gasp and are instantly drawn in to explore.

Jennifer McCurdy throws and alters porcelain to form beautiful graceful forms that she then carves to create her finished work. www.jennifermccurdy.com

...J's note: Yes. Beautiful forms - pierced bowls that nested together as a piece of art as well as separately.

What a treat to see Clay-n-Fiber at the show! I had discovered the work of Marc Jenesel and Karen Pierce some time back when I my brother told me to google my name. I did and then went on to try claynfiber. That's when the team work of Marc and Karen showed up. He creates the raku pots and Karen adds the incredible weaving additions. www.clay-n-fiber.com

William Kidd from right here in South Florida had his new work at the show, gorgeous colorful organic forms. I first met William Kid when he gave a workshop many years ago at Broward College in Davie. Then I saw him at a few shows during the short time I was hauling and setting up a tent. He is a very generous potter sharing his skills and knowledge. It was fun to see how his work has evolved .... www.williamkiddceramics.com

Scott Gamble didn't have a postcard to share but he did have some beautiful glass pieces that both Jackie and I would love to have for our homes. You can see some of his work at www.methodglassworks.com

...J's note: we were instantly drawn to the lichen bowls in red and yellow - seen on his website.

There were also many fiber artists with floor mats, rugs and lots of wearables. I'll let Jackie fill you in on the rest, including the baskets, clothes and others I've not mentioned. Thanks Jackie for the fun field trip!

Incredibly fine wood turning contrasted with bulbous forms. Delicate lacy feel.

I also enjoyed Debo Groover's mixed media bird paintings - polymer clay and acrylics on board. (no website)

It was pleasurable to see the high quality of presentation in the booths. And amusing to watch the flocks of ladies shopping the clothes/jewelry and accessories. (And we figured out a game plan for future viewings - to make sure we see the whole show from every angle!)

Rained out-ish - Postcards round robin

(Carrying on with our now established pattern of "She who hosts - posts")

We gathered at my (Jackie's) home for intended flinging of paint round robin style on fabric outside.

However, the weather....

....and so indoors we settled. Exchanged postcards, inspiration, and shared tales and bit of food.

And then to the countertops (after Gina scurried away to attend to her chaotic day) and round robin postcard efforts. Belinda sharing her pre-started Gelli prints from last session and some new stencils from StencilGirl Products (www.stencilgirlproducts.com)

Jane Davies is attempting to save her tiny Post Office in Vermont - mail volume is helpful so asks for art postcards to be sent her way...

Odd Tuesday on Friday - 3 Sizes of Gellis

OT had another Gelli print day. We now have all three sizes of Gelli pads. As Jackie put it best,  she is a quilter at heart so her 6"x6" is perfect for small prints to be used in quilts. Belinda has the BIG Gelli for her large work. Then there's me with the mid-size, undecided with my work? Anyway before Gelli time we had our usual show and tell and exchange of loan magazines, etc. Below are some of Elizabeth's pieces for exchange. Her ATC is part of a Leerix series and the front says 'Morning has broken, like the first morning' so hum along now....
